Riding lessons

Lesson Cancellation & Makeup Policy

Each lesson reserves time with a trainer, a horse, and space to learn. Clear notice and makeup deadlines help us care for our horses and keep lessons running smoothly for every rider.

Please let us know as soon as your plans change. How you contact us depends on how much notice you can give.

More than 24 hours’ noticeEmail the farm

Your email timestamp establishes notice. Complete an eligible makeup within two weeks of the original lesson.

24 hours’ notice or lessText your trainer

The lesson is charged as scheduled and does not qualify for a makeup.

Farm or trainer cancellationThree weeks

Complete your makeup within three weeks of the canceled lesson, regardless of how much notice we provide.

More than 24 hours’ notice

Email the farm to cancel.

Send your cancellation to the farm email address with the rider’s name and original lesson date and time. The email timestamp determines whether your notice was received more than 24 hours before the lesson.

An eligible makeup must be completed within two weeks (14 calendar days) of the original lesson date. The deadline is measured from the missed lesson, rather than the date you request or schedule the makeup.

24 hours’ notice or less

Text your trainer directly.

If you need to cancel with 24 hours’ notice or less, text your trainer as soon as possible. The lesson is charged at the full rate and forfeited, with no makeup available.

The same charge and forfeiture apply to no-shows and riders who arrive too late to participate.

Arranging a makeup

Contact the farm to arrange your makeup.

A parent or guardian should contact Shadow Creek Farm for riders under 18. Adult riders may contact us themselves. Include the original missed lesson date so we can match your request to the correct lesson.

We’ll help coordinate available options. You may share a trainer preference, but another Shadow Creek Farm trainer may be offered if your usual trainer has no suitable opening. A trainer preference does not extend the deadline.

Families are responsible for arranging and completing eligible makeups within the applicable window. A makeup not completed by its deadline is forfeited. The normal cancellation rules also apply to scheduled makeup lessons.

Client portal

View your lesson makeup credits.

Recorded credits appear in the client portal’s Lesson Makeup Credits section, where you can review available, scheduled, and recently used makeups. Contact the farm if you have a question about a recorded credit.

Makeup credits apply to lessons only. They do not become cash credits or reduce your billing balance. Regular billing continues while you have outstanding makeups.

Farm or trainer cancellations

Three weeks to complete your makeup.

If Shadow Creek Farm or a trainer cancels a lesson, you are eligible for a makeup regardless of how much notice we provide. Complete the makeup within three weeks (21 calendar days) of the canceled lesson.

This includes cancellations for weather or horse shows. Contact the farm to arrange a suitable time.

Weather and weekend lessons

Check with us before assuming a lesson is canceled.

Lessons ordinarily continue during inclement weather unless Corinne Deans closes the facility, cancels lessons, or your trainer tells you otherwise. If you choose not to attend, the normal rider-cancellation rules and notice requirements apply.

Weekend lessons may occasionally change because of horse shows. A farm or trainer cancellation allows a three-week makeup window. If you cancel on a show day, holiday, or other special date, the normal rider-cancellation rules apply.

Breaks from lessons

Plan ahead for time away.

A short break does not pause billing, extend makeup deadlines, or reserve your regular lesson time. Once prepaid lessons have begun, remaining lessons are not refundable and do not become monetary account credits.

Any eligible makeups must be completed within the normal deadline. If you pause or discontinue lessons, we cannot guarantee that your previous time will be available when you return.

Horsemanship lessons

Learning continues beyond the saddle.

Horsemanship is our standard lesson format. Mounted riding is common but is not guaranteed. Weather, horse availability, safety, or facility conditions may require an unmounted lesson.

Unmounted instruction is part of a rider’s education and counts as the scheduled regular or makeup lesson.

Changes to lesson type

Keep your billing details up to date.

If your lesson arrangement changes, such as moving from group to private instruction or changing lesson length, please contact billing so your account can be updated.

Thank you for helping us care for our horses, respect our trainers’ time, and provide dependable lessons for every Shadow Creek Farm rider.
